Everyone has to eat and with the rising costs of food, smart shopping is a must. Saving money on food may often seem like a tedious and impossible task. This is not the case. There are many different angles that you can take in order to keep money in your pocket at the cash register. No matter the size of your budget, it is always best to find ways to keep more money in your pocket.
Many people use coupons to save money on food. Using coupons allows you to save money on the products that you already love. Coupons can be found online and in your local newspaper. You can also shop at the few stores that allow double couponing. This gives you double the face-value of your coupon. Many grocery stores offer double coupons from time to time. The also generally advertise, when they do.
Creating a menu of food to last you each day that you cook for the upcoming week will also save money on food. This can break you of just picking something up and adding more than you really need to your buggy. Create the menu and make your shopping list from it.
Buy generic brands. There are many stores that offer equivalent items to your favorite brands. Give them a try, some are actually very good. This can save you considerably.
Use sale ads from your local grocery store. Flip through them prior to entering the grocery store. This will allow you to make a list or prepare a weekly menu based on sale items. Find coupons to further the savings on each sale item.
Shop your own home first. Look to see what you may have in your own pantry to comprise a meal. Often times, this will allow you to shorten your list. You may only need a few things to prepare the meal you want, rather than all the fixings.
Create a food budget and stick to it! Many people spend more unnecessary money at the grocery stores. You would be surprised as to how much you actually spend a month or week between you larger trip versus the, I need to pick this up trip. Create your budget and look over your actual spending. Look at the different products you are already spending you money on. Can you cut any of them out or maybe use a store brand? This can save dramatically on food costs.
Prepare meals at home versus eating out. This way you can plan for leftovers. Leftovers can account for two or possibly three days worth of meals for your family. Eating out is fun and yummy but should be used like a treat. With eating out comes, added expenses like, tips, extra gas and higher taxes in some areas.
Bring your lunch to work. Stop eating out and buy sandwich meats and soups. You go to a drive through and hit their dollar menu and still spend three dollars or so. Bringing your lunch with all the fixings will cost you less per day. Get creative!
Regardless for your reasoning, with a good solid plan to work with, saving money on food is NOT impossible. Take this as a challenge, get competitive and start saving.
